Next step set for joint rec master plan

The County and City of Grande Prairie will be working together on recreation in the region.

The Joint Recreation Master Plan has been adopted by both and the next step is the creation of a committee. This group will consists of community members and both municipalities will invite Hythe, Wembley, Beaverlodge, Sexsmith, and the MD of Greenview to be part of the collaboration.

City Mayor Bill Given says they will now work towards creating cost-sharing models. The plan looks at the short and long term investment into recreation. It also includes ways to enhance the current programs, services and facilities in the area.

County Reeve Leanne Beaupre says it is good to see that the collaborative work that has been done in the last few years with the city is in line with the Alberta Government’s goals to have cooperative municipalities.
