Barrhead man killed in Highway 2 collision

UPDATE: A blown red light is reportedly to blame for this morning’s fatal collision in Clairmont. RCMP says around 5:45 a.m., a jeep heading westbound on 100th Avenue didn’t stop at the Highway 2 intersection. It was hit on the driver’s side by a semi heading northbound on Highway 2.

The jeep’s driver, a 68 year old Barrhead man, sustained life threatening injuries and was declared dead in hospital. The 40 year old Grande Prairie man driving the truck was not injured. Highway 2 has since reopened.

A fatal collision has closed Highway 2 at the intersection with 100th Avenue in Clairmont. RCMP say it’s currently impassable and traffic is being diverted around the area.

One person has been reported dead. We’ll update when we learn more.
