Northern Lights Invitation swim meet comes to Grande Prairie this weekend

Swimmers from eight clubs across Alberta and British Columbia will be in Grande Prairie this weekend for the Battery World Northern Lights swim meet.

Grande Prairie Piranhas swim club coach Barry Healey says it is the first long track meet of the year at the Eastlink Centre, and is an important one for swimmers as well.

“We’ve got our B provincials coming up and the last chance to qualify is this meet, because the junior provincials are in June. Those athletes that go on to that have a chance at qualifying for senior provincials, which are in the first week of July.”

Heats begin at 3 pm tomorrow, and 8 am both Saturday and Sunday. Around 190 swimmers ranging in age from 7 to 26 are slated to take part.
