Peace River daycare fire likely caused by electrical failure

It’s believed the fire that destroyed Sugar Plum Daycare in Peace River last weekend was started by an electrical failure.

An investigation determined the blaze was non-suspicious, and that it had been active for some time before 9-1-1 was called.

The daycare caught fire around 11 p.m. last Friday night, and crews from PRFD and County of Northern Lights Fire Department battled the blaze overnight, with help from the Northern Sunrise FD the next day.

Fire Chief Lance Bushie says a fire like this highlights the need for early detection, as the sooner authorities are alerted, the better firefighters can save lives and property.
