Biennial homeless count coming up

Every two years, the city of Grande Prairie attempts to get a snapshot of homelessness in the community. The Point-in-Time count will take place this year on October 19th.

The 2014 count found 189 people were living with homelessness with 30 per cent of those sleeping on the street. This was up from 122 in 2008 but has been attributed to a growing population and a change in the way the count was done.

Volunteers will be gathering information from surveys done from shelters and on the streets. After the work is compiled, the Alberta’s 7 Cities Network on Housing and Homelessness information will be released.
