City to express their support of TFW program to Ottawa and the province

Following a hiring freeze for temporary foreign workers in the food and service sector, the city of Grande Prairie is planning to voice their support for the program.

The Chamber of commerce is asking all municipalities in the area to do so.

Mayor Bill Given says it is important for Ottawa to see how vital the program is in our region.

“Essentially everyone that can work in the Grande Prairie region is working, and there is still a need for more employees. A program like the temporary foreign worker program is really the only thing right now that allows us to fill those gaps.”

The controversial program has been under heavy criticism lately, following reports that some employers had been exploiting their temporary foreign workers.

There are many who don’t want to see the entire program shut down because of the abuses of a few.
