Pipeline near Fox Creek contained and purged after leak

A pipeline near Fox Creek where a leak was reported late last week has been contained and purged. The leak was discovered Thursday afternoon, 15 kilometres northeast of the town.

The crude oil pipeline is owned by Trilogy Energy, which has since redirected production away from the area. Crews spent the weekend starting the clean up, as the Alberta Energy Regulator and an emergency response coordinator assessed the situation.

The oil emulsion has impacted a flowing marsh area, but the company says there are no fish in it. No other impacts to wildlife have been reported.

We’re still waiting on an update on the cause and the volume of the release, which is 50 per cent water and 50 per cent oil.
