Local unemployment rate down for second month in a row

The unemployment rate in western Alberta has dropped for the second month in a row. It reached 6.6 per cent in September, down from 7.2 in August. It’s still more than a full percentage point higher than a year ago.

The rate for the economic region that houses Grande Prairie and Peace River is now the lowest it’s been since November 2015, when it was 6.3 per cent. It also remains the lowest in the province.

Alberta’s unemployment rate shifted up slightly to 8.5 per cent, while Canada’s held steady at 7 per cent.
