Alberta sets sights on large-scale solar farm

The Alberta government is looking to get its first solar farm built to replace two of its existing green energy contracts. They currently produce 135,000 megawatt hours a year for the province, but both will be finished by the end of 2017. A third contract that provides the remaining 115,000 megawatt hours will remain in effect until December 2024.

The NDP have issued a request for information about the potential cost and best approach to get enough solar power to cover half of government operations. President and CEO of Canadian Solar Industries Association says if Alberta builds a solar farm, it would be the first large-scale operation in western Canada.
