Local residents have a rare opportunity this weekend to hear from one of the world’s top sports psychologists. Dr. John Hogg has worked with the likes of Wayne Gretzky and former Olympic swimming gold medalist Mark Tewksbury. He will host a series of seven seminars, with a focus on improving mental skills and performance. Grande Prairie Piranhas coach Barry Healey says one of Dr. Hogg’s presentations will help parents understand all of the emotions and stress that young athletes go through.
“And the goal of that, and I have worked with John before, is to try and get the parent to think of the long term, the benefits of being in sports and the time management skills that they get. All of those skills are transferable into their school work and everything else.”
The sessions will all be held in the Hockey Legends Lounge at the Coke Centre. They begin tomorrow night and run through to Saturday. Tickets are available through the Evergreen Park website.
