Tickets still available for Nitehawk’s comedy fundraiser

Nitehawk Year-Round Adventure Park’s annual comedy fundraiser is just around the corner, but more tickets need to be sold. This is the 20th year the event has happened, and assistant general manager Johnathan Clarkson expects a special night.

“This event started off as a pizza and beer and one comedian event and now we’ve moved to Five Mile Hall and upgraded it to a fully catered buffet. Every year we’ve increased our budget in terms of what we spend on our entertainment; they always deliver and put on a great show so we’re really excited.”

This year’s headliners are Canadian comedians Dave Nystrom and Lori Gibbs. Saturday’s show is the ski hill’s largest fundraiser, with all money made going towards making snow for the upcoming season. Clarkson says the process regularly costs between $250 and $300,000 a season.

“Unfortunately, the Peace Country isn’t very well known for getting huge amounts of snow that stays a long time. Nitehawk has to make snow and we do that with snow making guns and using air and water to do that. It’s a huge cost to incur just before we have any guests on the hill.”

If all goes as planned, Nitehawk’s soft opening is scheduled for November 19th. Clarkson says skiiers and snowboarders will also notice construction that’s gone on over the fall.

“One of which is a 1,200 square foot expansion to our rental shop, which was desperately needed. Those that have attended the hill on a busy day or when we have a school group out, the rental shop was definitely a limiting factor for us and so adding this 1,200 square feet is definitely going to improve the experience.”

A portable is also being added to the bottom of the Aquatera tube zone that will have washrooms and a cafeteria space.

Tickets for the comedy show are available through Clarkson at 780-505-1457 or online at gonitehawk.com.
