UPDATE: Equipment failure caused Aquatera water treatment plant fire

UPDATE: The small fire at Aquatera’s water treatment plant Thursday afternoon was caused by an equipment failure. Communications Manager Chelsea Lewis says they were still testing the equipment, so it was isolated from the rest of the system at the time.

The plant was not shut down and there’s been no impact on the water quality or the treatment process. Aquatera is working with the manufacturers to figured out what caused the failure.

A fire broke out at Aquatera’s water treatment plant Thursday afternoon. Firefighters responded to the 100th Street facility just after 2:15 p.m.

The fire spread to a chemical in the plant but the fire department was able to contain it.

There was no contamination of the water supply and the hazmat team has since cleaned up all of the potassium permanganate.

The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
