Volunteer helping to haul out garbage from Dunes

Volunteers will be busy out in the Dunes this weekend taking part in the recreation area’s annual clean up. More than 55,000 pounds of illegally dumped garbage was hauled out of the area in 2014, and almost 47,000 more last year.

Local companies have already helped to collect abandoned vehicles and large pieces of metal, but the efforts of volunteers will be needed to get the rest. The clean up will run Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., starting across from the Dunes Golf and Winter Club.

Chris Yaremchuk with Alberta Environment and Parks says they’re looking for volunteers with tools like rakes, shovels, quads, trucks, trailers, tractors, bobcats, and picker trucks. Those who come out will be thanked with a barbecue and prizes.
