Grande Prairie home sales down more than 25 per cent

Home sales in Grande Prairie have been on a downward trend since January 2015, but last month saw the smallest decline since. The number of homes sold through the Grande Prairie Real Estate Board in August were down 16.3 per cent from a year earlier to 169 units.

Year-to-date, sales are down 26.8 per cent from the first eight months of 2015. The average price of a home sold has also dropped nearly 5 per cent to $297,000.

There are nearly 2,000 homes for sale in the Grande Prairie region, up 17 per cent from a year ago. However, the Canadian Real Estate Association also notes that the number of new listings marked a nine year low for August.
