Rewards of Whitecourt liquor store robbery short-lived

Five people were arrested after a liquor store robbery in Whitecourt. RCMP says someone in a mask stole two large bottles of whiskey from the store on Kepler Street Thursday afternoon. Employees followed the thief, but they were able to get away in a vehicle.

Police stopped a suspicious vehicle on the Old Blue Ridge Highway a short time later and found the bottles. One had been opened. The three men and two young women in the car were arrested.

The youths were released to their parents, but some of the adults were on release conditions from other offences. Several charges, including disguising with intent to commit a criminal offence and shoplifting have been laid against them. Their names will be released at a later date.
