Grande Prairie Fastball Association working on bid for nationals

Grande Prairie may be the host for the Men’s National Fastball Championship in 2018. Bid Committee member Paul Wedman says they are working on a bid to send out mid-October.

“An event like this will bring in, in town, thousands of dollars in meals, touring and hotels. These events are wonderful for Grande Prairie. Grande Prairie has stamped themselves a place for high level sports.”

The city council has supported the fastball association with a refundable $25,000 bond for the bid. Wedman says the cost of hosting the five day tournament would be around $80,000 to $100,000.

There would be at least 8 teams from coast to coast playing at South Bear Creek.

“If we are lucky 16 [teams] from coast to coast. Newfoundland has some amazing ball players there, Vancouver, Saskatchewan and all across the country really.”

It would all take place early September or late August at the South Bear Creek Ball Diamonds if the bid goes through.
