United Way sets large fundraising goal for campaign year

The United Way kicked off their 2016/2017 campaign yesterday with a goal of $1.4 million. Campaign Cabinet Chair Rob Petrone explains that this is the highest target they’ve ever had.

“With the economy the way it is, their needs are higher than ever before. That is the number we have totaled up with our partners input. It is significant in a community like this but I hope with hard work and a giving community, we can come close to making that.”

Petrone says people from every walk of life use the services provided by the organizations that they give money to with 1 in 3 people in the province utilizing programs.

Last year, the United Way raked in $790,000 for local charities.
