String of early morning emergencies in County

County of Grande Prairie firefighters were kept busy by a string of incidents early Sunday morning.

The first call came in around 1:30 a.m. Crews from the Dunes and Clairmont were sent to Gregg Distributors in Clairmont, where they found a fire in one of the bays. The sprinkler system had already been activated, and the fire department was able to put out the blaze.

A gas leak was then reported around 4 a.m. Several homes in the La Glace area were evacuated, and the leak was contained by ATCO Gas. Once the homes were ventilated, residents were allowed back in at 5:30 a.m.

Firefighters from the Dunes, Clairmont, Bezanson and Sexsmith Stations were then all called out to a house fire south of Township Road 720 on Range Road 53. The home was vacant at the time, and crews were able to contain the damage to one room. The cause of both fires are still under investigation.
