Event aims to increase physical activity enthusiasm in young girls

The city of Grande Prairie’s Recreation and Sport Department is hosting a health focused event for teen girls this weekend.

The Go Girl event goes this Saturday and Recreation Program Supervisor Vallyn Schmidt explains that it is full of promotion of body positive activities.

“It is all about getting girls active and trying new recreation, sport or physical activities as well as education on healthy eating or lifestyle. What it means to be active for life.”

She adds that girls entering junior high will usually have a significant drop in physical activity. Schmidt would like the girls in the community to know that there is more opportunity for exercise than just elite competition and team sports.

The event is held 9:00 am to 4:00 pm at the Grande Prairie Composite High school with pre-registration required.

Registration is $15 and can be done via cityofgp.com or at 780-538-0469.
