New schools bring new school zones to watch for

With many excited kids heading back to school tomorrow, it is important to remember school zones are back in effect.

Grande Prairie RCMP are reminding motorists to be aware of those zones near schools as well as school bus safety.

There are three new schools in the Pinnacle Ridge, Riverstone North and Royal Oaks neighbourhoods which means new school zones to watch for.

Police advise that drivers learn the rules for their child’s school. This includes drop off and pick up locations. They add that it is important that drivers also yield to people at cross walks. With an increase of traffic in the morning, Officers remind residents to plan ahead for a slower commute.

Playground zones and school zones are set at 30 kilometres per hour unless otherwise posted. These run from 7:30 am to 4:30 pm. The zone will end once there is a sign that indicates the change or if there is a change to a higher speed signalled by a speed limit sign.
