Heavy rain closes City grass fields

After a record-matching rainfall of 19.8 millimetres Sunday, the City has closed its grass fields. Gym and sport field supervisor Lori Goodman says there’s heavy rain accumulation, and any use could cause damage and make the fields unplayable.

The closure affects slow pitch games, but doesn’t apply to the Community Knowledge Campus West artificial turf field. City staff will update conditions in the morning.

The last time 19.8 millimetres of rain fell on August 22nd in Grande Prairie was in 1972.
