GP Brewing Co. lager wins award

The owners of G-P Brewing Company are celebrating an award for one of their locally brewed lagers. Partner Derek Moe says they actually won the ATB Financial Science of the Six Pack beer tasting event award before their grand opening in March.

“All on people polling, so it’s not biased; it’s all on taste buds. We were the number one people’s choice that evening so that was exciting and to feature our new lager with GP Brewing Co. was an exciting moment.”

GP Brewing Co. has two lagers on tap, and it was True North that won the judges over. The 4.5 per cent beer uses malt grains from the Peace region, and Moe says they aim to keep as much local as possible.

“All our grains that we use for our malt are actually local Peace Country barley. The biggest key ingredient with all beer is healthy malt and to have it right at our doorstep in a prime location is a no-brainer.

All of the brewery’s shareholders are from the Grande Prairie area as well. Their keg tap trophy was presented by ATB Financial members on Wednesday.

GP Brew Co has also been awarded the beer pouring rights at Revolution Place. They’ve also served at the Teepee Creek Stampede and Drillers football games. If you haven’t had a chance yet, Moe encourages residents to book a brewery tour.
