12 hour standoff with Valleyview RCMP ends without injuries

A nearly 12 hour standoff with police on the Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation has ended peacefully. The incident started around 1 p.m. Thursday when Valleyview RCMP heard a man wanted on outstanding weapons charged was at a home on the First Nation.

When officers arrived, they found a stolen vehicle in the driveway with a firearm and ammunition inside. The wanted man and another woman refused to come out of the home until 1 a.m. Friday morning. They were arrested by the RCMP’s Emergency Response Team from Edmonton and were taken to the detachment in Valleyview.

Charges are pending against the two and their names have not yet been released. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
