Visible addresses a must in the rural area

Even if you live in rural areas of the city, you need to display an address. A change to a City bylaw has been proposed that says those areas that are on rural roads need to have numbers on their homes. Enforcement Services Manager Chris Manuel explains that the numbers on homes are very important. He says it allows for emergency services to get to the right home when they need to.

There is a minimum size requirement with 10 centimetre numbers if the building from 0 to 15 metres away from the roadway and a size of at least 15 centimetres if the home is 15 to 20 metres away. The numbers must be 20 cm if it is 20 metres or further from the road.

There will be no crack down on enforcement for the numbers but education will be provided for residents.
