Two fires at a home on 100th Avenue at 97th Street overnight Sunday are being considered suspicious.
Authorities were first called to a fire at a detached garage around 11:30 p.m. The blaze was quickly put out with minimal damage.
Firefighters responded again less than an hour later. The second fire caused significant damage to the home itself, as it spread into the attic space at the back. Fortunately there were no injuries reported as the building is currently vacant.
It’s also noted that while there were smoke detectors in the home, they were not plugged in to a power source so alarms did not sound.
Both RCMP and the Grande Prairie Fire Department say the fires are suspicious. An investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
