Grande Prairie wildfire hazard upped to moderate with hot weather in the forecast

The recent dry weather in the Grande Prairie region has pushed the wildfire hazard up to moderate. Wildfire Information Officer Melinda Paplawski says increasingly hot and sunny days are in the forecast for the weekend, which will dry out fine fuels like grass, leaves and branches. When that happens, it’s more likely a wildfire will start.

Although many parts of the area have gotten plenty of rain this summer, Paplawski reminds residents that others have been drier. If you are camping or spending time in a forested area this weekend, make sure you have completely put out your campfire before leaving it.
