Chomiak handed two life sentences for murders of ex-wife, her daughter

Edward Chomiak has been given a life sentence with no parole for 25 years for the first degree murder of his ex-wife, and another life sentence with no chance of parole for 15 years for the second degree murder of her daughter. They’ll be served concurrently.

45 year old Melody Perry and 20 year old Jerica Bouchard were shot several times and killed in their mobile home in Falher on December 15th, 2010. According to the CBC, Bouchard had only moved in with her mother three weeks earlier, and Justice Mary Moreau felt it couldn’t be proven that Chomiak knew she would be there when he went to the property with a gun.

At the time, the 55 year old Nampa man was under a restraining order to stay away from both women, and waited until Perry’s new boyfriend left for work before approaching the home. There were several delays in getting the case to trial, including requests for a psychological assessment and lawyer firings.
