Grande Prairie represented at Rio De Janeiro Olympics

There are two Grande Prairie born athletes representing Canada at the Rio De Janeiro Olympics.

The official kick off for the events is 5:00 pm with some of the archery events starting earlier this morning.

Competing in the sailing event Narca 17 is 38 year old Nikola Girke. She now lives in West Vancouver and has competed at the Olympics three times.

The sailing event will start mid-week.

The swan city will also be represented on the volleyball court with Gavin Schmitt playing for Canada. He calls Saskatoon his hometown but was born in Grande Prairie.

Volleyball games will begin this Sunday with Canada taking on the US.
