Health centre sod turning coincides with Spirit River Centennial

Today marks the official start to a new health centre in the Town of Spirit River. A sod turning event will be held today for the new Central Peace Health Centre. CAO of the MD of Spirit River Kelly Hudson explains that this is very important to the community.

“It’s going to sustain health care in this area. It will compliment our pharmacy and the hospital. It will tie our community together for years to come.”

He says the biggest stand out of the project is the example the five municipalities have created by working together. The new health complex is being financed by Birch Hills County, the Village of Rycroft, Saddle Hills County, the Md of Spirit River and the Town of Spirit River.

“In our community, it is going to fit in so well. We were able to secure property just south of the existing clinic. When we start our new clinic, we won’t be putting out our new clinic because it will stay open until the new one opens.”

Hudson says it is more than a health care facility than a clinic with the capacity for not only 5 doctor’s offices but also a mental health worker as well as dentist offices.

The project costs just over $5-million and is set to open within the next year.

The sod turning takes place at 12:30 pm today.
