A new campaign has launched to reduce the amount of motorists that speed past emergency workers and tow truck drivers. The Room to Work campaign has Alberta RCMP and the Alberta Motor Association partner on the project.
Across the province, there were 662 tickets handed out in 2015 for people speeding past emergency vehicles. In 2016 there has been nearly 4 hundred. Not only should motorists slow down for emergency personnel, the same goes for tow trucks.
According to AMA, there has been increasingly more close calls and near misses while responding to stranded vehicles. RCMP would also like to point out that fines double when motorists don’t slow down when passing an emergency vehicle with flashing lights on.
