Grande Prairie celebrates culture and heritage (gallery)

Muskoseepi Park was alive with culture and Heritage yesterday with many live performances on the amphitheater stage.

One of those was the Booming Tree Taiko Drummers who performed mid afternoon. Drummer Greg Shimizu explains that Taiko is japanese for drum.

“It refers to the instrument you see up on stage with us. It’s an ancient instrument that is used in many different ways in Japan from religious ceremonies to festivals to warfare to signalling floods and fires.”

He says that the kind of performance him and Twilla McLeod did at the Heritage Day was kumi-daiko. There were also activities held at the East Link Centre and carnival activities held at the Grande Prairie Museum across the foot bridge in Muskoseepi Park.
