New Storm coach eager to turn club's fortunes around

Just days into his new job as coach and GM of the Grande Prairie Storm, Kevin Higo is already busy working the phones, talking to potential recruits for the hockey club. The Storm are coming off a season where they missed the playoffs for the first time in franchise history. Higo says it’s not far off from the situation he faced when he joined the Brooks Bandits in 2004.

“They had never been in the playoffs for five years, and there was some real challenges there.  The benefit that we have in Grande Prairie is that it does have the tradition of championships.  There is a really good tradition there, kids have gone on to other levels.  You know, it is just a more established place.”

Higo, who was named AJHL coach of the year with the Bandits in 2005, is finishing up obligations with the EDGE school in Calgary. He hopes to arrive in Grande Prairie within the next two weeks.
