Environmental groups against Alberta caribou recovery plan

Environmental groups from across the province are asking the Alberta government to get rid of a draft plan for recovering woodland caribou.

Around a dozen have voiced their opinion which include Animal Alliance and Wolf Awareness. They say that fencing pregnant caribou in a 100 kilometre fence of forest would have predators destroyed. They urge that deer, elk and moose could also be destroyed by this move.

The culprit for losing caribou is being put on expanding industrial areas.

All provinces have been given until 2017 to come up with range plans and strategies for recovery from the federal government for caribou herds.
