County receives recognition from FireSmart Canada

The County of Grande Prairie has been awarded for their dedication in preventing the risk of wildfire for the community. FireSmart Canada presented the FireSmart Community Protection Achievement Award for their development of a Wildfire Mitigation Strategy.

County of Grande Prairie Reeve Leanne Beaupre says that keeping the community safe from the risk of wildfire is a priority. The mitigation plan was developed in 2015 to help reduce loss or damage caused by wildifre as well as minimizing the risk.

The award has been running annually since 2012 and the county is one of 10 across the country that have received this recognition this year.

Stathcona County and the Town of Edson were the recipients last year. The Kananaskis Improvement District received the honour in 2014.
