“Canada’s loss is Alberta’s gain”: MP Warkentin on Jason Kenney

When it comes to Jason Kenney making the switch from federal to provincial politics, Chris Warkentin says Canada’s loss is Alberta’s gain.

“Jason is one of the hardest working public figures in Canada today. There’s really no politician that I’ve ever met that has worked harder, and so I think that right now that’s what we definitely need. I think what people will also find is that Jason is a uniter; he’s a person who builds bridges.”

That’s the plan as Kenney is basing his PC leadership campaign on uniting the party with the Wildrose. His first stop after announcing his intention was in Grande Prairie Wednesday night. Warkentin helped orchestrate the Calgary MP’s visit to the Swan City Wednesday night and believes in his desire to unite the right.

“What I am very concerned about is that my children may have to go to a different province to get a job when they’re looking for employment. I’ve talked about the necessity of coming together to build a plan to ensure that we have a competent, conservative option the next provincial election, one that’s unified.”

Warkentin says he didn’t have a role to play in Kenney’s decision, but has been extensively talking about the need for Conservatives to work together across party lines since the 2015 provincial election. Warkentin says Kenney plans to resign his federal seat, and Kenney said on Twitter that will happen when the election begins.
