North Peace Navigators hire new head coach

The North Peace Navigators will have a new head coach for the 2016/2017 season. Craig Fox can no longer continue in the position due to work changes.

In his place, Sheldon Szmata has been hired. The Peace River native most recently coached the Grimshaw Huskies to the North Peace Hockey League finals, and has played in the WHL, ACAC and CHL.

“I am pleased to join an organization like the Navs that have one of the best reputations and records in Alberta Jr B hockey. I hope to be able to build on that record as we help develop young men’s opportunities and skills on and off the ice.”

The Navigators are themselves coming off of their most successful season ever, having won the bronze medal at westerns, gold at provincials, and their third straight North West Junior Hockey League championship. Team president Albert Cooper believes Szmata will keep the momentum going with his “experience, work ethic, and desire for professionalism.”
