Weather-dependent Canada Day fireworks still on for tonight

As of right now, Canada Day fireworks are still on for tonight. The City’s holiday kickoff at Muskoseepi Park starts at 8 p.m. with entertainment running all the way until midnight.

That’s around when the fireworks are supposed to be set off, but the display is very dependent on the weather conditions. A severe thunderstorm watch is currently in effect for the region, but the forecast is calling for clear skies around 12 a.m.

The City says the call on whether the fireworks are a go will be made approximately an hour before the show starts. We will update when we know more.

The fireworks display is held at midnight the morning of Canada Day instead of the evening as residents have the day off work on July 1st.
