City looking at cemetery fee increase

The last increase to cemetery fees was in 2012 and they could go up again this year. The City of Grande Prairie is looking at the increase based on comparing municipalities in the province. The fees would be adjusted with an increase of $200 making the infant and adult plots between $400 and $600. They are also looking into columbarium additions which would cost around 23 hundred dollars.

The fee increase is part of the proposed cemetery bylaw which outlines subdivision of lots for interment purposes, rights and responsibilities for interments and the care and maintenance as well as penalties for destruction.

The Cemetery bylaw will be brought to the next council meeting because they did not reach a unanimous agreement.
