Mark Sutherland takes Guy Weadick Days championship

It was a successful week in High River for former Grande Prairie chuckwagon driver Mark Sutherland. His aggregate time of 5-13-13 was more than enough to capture the 2016 Guy Weadick Days championship. He credits his horses with pulling him through.

I made a few driver errors. I made a bad one tonight and a bad one last night but the horses, thankfully, ran fast enough to cover it up and folks didn’t see it. When the horses are so good, it actually makes it quite a bit easier.

Sutherland took the championship with a large 2.48 second lead ahead of Vern Nolin. Also from Grande Prairie, Rick Fraser placed sixth overall, while Mark’s father Kirk Sutherland came in seventh.

Mark is now tenth in the 2016 World Professional Chuckwagon Standings, with 456 points. Up next is the Ponoka Stampede Championship starting Tuesday.
