RCMP looking into cause of Fort McMurray wildfire

Wildfire investigators have determined that the Fort McMurray wildfire was like caused by human activity. They have ruled out lightning as a probable cause of the blaze, which was first spotted by a forestry crew flying 15 kilometres southwest of the city on May 1st.

RCMP are now trying to figure out if whatever sparked the fire was criminal in nature. They haven’t figured out how it started, but are hoping to speak with anyone who was in the Horse River Trail System wilderness area between April 29th and May 5th. It’s reportedly popular with hikers and ATV riders.

Anyone who could help police is asked to call a dedicated toll-free wildfire investigation line at 1-844-620-9826 or Crime Stoppers to remain anonymous.
