Man caught stealing from Prairie Mall after hours

A man has been arrested for stealing from stores in the Prairie Mall overnight. Around 3 a.m. this morning, security saw someone on video surveillance breaking into businesses and kiosks. It’s believed the suspect had hidden inside the mall until after it was closed.

When escaping, the man sprayed security staff with bear spray and ran away. An RCMP Police Dog was able to quickly track him down to 99th Street, just 150 metres away from the building. He was arrested and mounties found more than $5,000 worth of stolen property on him.

27 year old Richard Stairs of Prince George, B.C. has been charged with break and enter, assault with a weapon, theft over $5,000, mischief and possession of a break-in instrument. He’ll appear in court next Monday.
