County and City of Grande Prairie have first meeting on the Grande Prairie and District SPCA

The City and County of Grande Prairie have met to discuss the financial crisis at the Grande Prairie and District SPCA. Both had heard about the difficulties the SPCA was having last week when Board President Laurie Fisher and Executive Director Cheryl Carlson presented to both councils. The representatives asked the city and council for a joint ask of $200,000 to help save the shelter.

Mayor Bill Given, Councillor Jackie Clayton, and Councillor Rory Tarant from the city joined the representatives Reeve Leanne Beaupre, Councillor Peter Harris and Councillor Karen Rosvold.

Coming out of that meeting, both administrations will bring back reports to their councils on the next meeting day of both county and city on June 13th. This will be given to the GP SPCA Board to consider.

The GP SPCA closed it’s doors on Tuesday because their accounts were frozen by the Canada Revenue Agency. They owe the CRA $120,000.
