Annexed students get funding to stay at current schools

Students who live in the recently annexed areas will be allowed to continue their education at their current school. Peace Wapiti School Division says it’s heard from the Minister of Education that children in the rural service area will get funding for their transportation while they stay at Harry Balfour School and Peace Wapiti Academy. Board Chair Dana McIntosh says their younger siblings will also be eligible, but the funding will stop when anyone moved to a school outside of PWSD.

“We’re extremely pleased with decision from the Minister’s office to grandfather transportation for all current students at Harry Balfour School and Peace Wapiti Academy, and their younger siblings. This move will ensure continuity and consistency of education and services for PWSD families.”

Around 96 students were affected when the city annexed more than 6,300 hectares of land from the County of Grande Prairie.
