Red light cameras return to four Grande Prairie intersections

Red light cameras are back at four intersections in Grande Prairie. The fixed intersection safety devices catch both excessive speeding and drivers who run red lights at high volume collision locations.

They include 100th Street and 132nd, 116th and 84th Avenues, along with Highway 43 and 116th Street. All of those locations used to have red light cameras installed, but they all now have signs letting people know they’re being monitored again.

The ISDs follow the addition of photo radar vehicles last fall. In total, they’re expected to be installed at 10 intersections, as part of a five year contract for automated traffic enforcement with Global Traffic Group. Violations come with a fine, but they don’t lead to demerit points.
