Fatal collision near Town of Mayerthorpe entrance

RCMP in Mayerthorpe have confirmed that a two-vehicle collision on Highway 43 over the weekend led to a fatality. The crash happened around 2:15 p.m. Saturday at the intersection with Highway 22 near the entrance to the town.

Police say a pickup heading west on Highway 43 hit an SUV that was turning left into Mayerthorpe. A passenger in the SUV died at the scene. The driver was taken to hospital in critical condition, while the driver of the truck was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

An investigation into the cause of the collision continues and there’s no word yet on whether any charges will be laid. The identity of the deceased has not been released.
