Grande Prairie SPCA meeting with City and County

The Grande Prairie and District SPCA is meeting with both the County and City of Grande Prairie today to try and come up with a solution to its financial woes. The organization is $250,000 in the hole and is otherwise planning to close its doors Tuesday.

While they will be asking for funds, part of the strategy is to look at other options like the society getting more money from animal licensing fees. So far a Go Fund Me page has raised more than $16,000, and it’s hoped a radio and print-a-thon involving 2day FM tomorrow will help bring in another $25,000.

The SPCA’s accounts will stay frozen by the Canada Revenue Agency until the roughly $120,000s it’s owed is squared up. Board chair Laurie Fisher says they had not been paying employee withholdings for the past year.
