UPDATE: Fox Creek area no longer threatened by wildfire

UPDATE: A wildfire alert is no longer in place for the Town of Fox Creek and residents south of Little Smoky. The province says the area is no longer threatened by the fire. However, a State of Local Emergency for the Municipal District of Greenview remains to help wildfire operations.

The fire near Fox Creek is still considered out of control, but it has been downgraded from a Type 6 to a Type 2. That means it’s no longer fast moving with high flames and is now slow moving with flames of three feet or less. Original estimates that is was 900 hectares in size have also been reduce to 657 hectares.

Residents of Fox Creek and those previously evacuated south of Little Smoky are still being asked to be prepared to evacuate within two hours if something changes. The Town says the weather is promising with a chance of rain today and 25 to 40 millimetres tomorrow. The blaze is still 11 kilometres away.
