South Montrose Concourse construction begins at end of May

Construction on the South Montrose concourse will begin at the end of the month. The $1.2 million project is set to be completed by the end of October. City Planner Alison Downing says it will be built adjacent to the library against the Montrose Cultural Centre stretching out about 30 meters.

“It will have a large plaza and then a series of landscaped areas and smaller plazas. There will be sitting areas and passive recreation areas. There will be a series of trees including plum trees and a community garden area”

The main plaza is set to be 31 meters by 24 meters and be the home for winter carnivals, festivals, outdoor markets as well as concerts. The plum trees are part of 78 deciduous trees set to be planted along with various shrubs and coniferous trees.

This area is meant to link the future Performing Arts Theatre with the Montrose Cultural Centre. The original cost of the project was slated at $1.8 million.
