UPDATE: No arrest yet in fatal parking lot confrontation

UPDATE: RCMP say they do not have anyone in custody in connection with Saturday afternoon’s fatal incident. Anyone who may have any information about the homicide is asked to contact the detachment or Crime Stoppers to remain anonymous.

The victim has been identified as a 35 year old man from Abbotsford. An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday.

Police say that while this appears to have been an isolated incident, residents are reminded to call 9-1-1 immediately if they think a crime is in progress or about to happen.

A man has died after a confrontation in a Grande Prairie parking lot. Just before 1 p.m. Saturday, a man reportedly came out of the Home Hardware and confronted another man who was interfering with his vehicle.

As the suspect tried to drive away in another vehicle, the victim tried to stop him and was severely injured. He was airlifted to an Edmonton hospital where he later passed away.

Edmonton RCMP Major Crimes Unit, Forensic Identification and Grande Prairie GIS are investigating the incident as a homicide. Anyone who may have witnessed it is asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers.

The name of the deceased is not being released, pending notification of next of kin. This is Grande Prairie’s second homicide of 2016, following the death of a woman Friday following an assault earlier this week.
