St. Joe’s student selected in Skills Canada Alberta lottery

A St. Joe’s Catholic School student lucked out and has been selected to represent Alberta at the Skills Canada National Competition. Provincials for secondary students were cancelled this year, as the Edmonton EXPO Centre was being used for Fort McMurray evacuees.

Instead, a lottery of all the regional gold medal winners was held, and Kayla Head was chosen first in Photography. Zak Knoepfli from the Comp was picked second in IT-Network Systems Administration and could make the trip to Moncton next month if the person ahead of him can’t. Two local students qualified for nationals last year.

While some post-secondary events were cancelled, others were moved to smaller locations in Edmonton. Unfortunately, there were no gold medal winners from Grande Prairie Regional College. The national competition runs June 5-8 in New Brunswick.
